Lucy and Noah are working under groundworks apprenticeship schemes with Mildren Construction from CETC (Fareham). They are both working on the Delme scheme, delivering an improved new bus lane, cycle track, footways and crossings between Delme and Downend in Fareham.

They tell their stories here:

Lucy

Working at Mildren for 18 months as part of a gang means I have learnt from trained and experienced operatives. This has enabled me to develop new skills throughout my apprenticeship and enjoying this variety of tasks, and the experience, has helped me understand how many different career paths there are in the construction industry.

I have learnt it takes a team to get a job done and that our individual skills sets result in us working together to complete a project. It’s true teamwork on site and we each have different skills and knowledge. Sharing this enables us to work productively.

Nicki Main, Mildren’s Communications and Social Value Manager says “I am so proud of Lucy and the effort she puts into everything she does – she has just passed a Maths exam and I know she has struggled with this, but she hasn’t given up and kept working hard to achieve it. Lucy always has a smile on her face, and nothing is too much trouble for her. It is a pleasure to have her on site.”

Noah

Starting off at college in March 2024 I am training at CETC under a groundworks apprenticeship. I have learnt the basic drainage principals, concrete foundations and slab laying and part of my apprentice training has included dumper and roller tickets which I enjoy – it has broadened my work experience and qualifications on site.

I have really enjoyed the apprenticeship scheme and would recommend the apprenticeship route to anyone wanting to join the construction industry.

Nicki Main said “Noah is a keen, enthusiastic team player and we’re delighted to be supporting him through his apprenticeship, seeing him develop his skills for the future.”

Keep up the good work all Mildren apprentices!
